Basic survival in this game is much like real life - try not to get damaged (overmuch), try to consume enough food to sustain yourself, try to consume enough fluid (water) to sustain yourself, try to maintain normal body temperature, and rest when you are weary.
SURVIVAL 101
The above mentioned functions are covered under the HUNGER/THIRST/FATIGUE system and the REST MENU. Read on for details.
SUSTENANCE
HTF (Hunger, Thirst, and Fatigue) System - can be summed up with "What YOU choose to equip and how heavy YOUR inventory is in direct relation to the area you are in IS how fast you Hunger, Thirst, and Fatigue." This is all linked into the weather/temperature so you will find overheating to be a problem for warriors in full plate armor traversing an arid hot desert much more rapidly than for the same character in a temperate forest setting. Remember - each piece of gear adds to your HTF Rate, as also does ratio of your overall load to your strength. Combat DRASTICALLY INCREASES your HTF Rate. There are also Constituition modifiers for reducing Fatigue, Wisdom modifiers to reduce Hunger, and Dexterity Modifiers to reduce Thirst.
RESTING
The intention of the Campfire is to make it a staging area for adventuring. Set up a Camp somewhere you want to make an excursion into a Dungeon or what and you have a close place to rest. YOU choose where to set up the Campfire (as long as it is a Natural Setting).
For those wishing to camp/rest, first you will need some Dry Wood. You can bash any DEAD TREE to get some dry wood (good survivalists will keep a keen watch for such resources). The would-be camper will also need a Torch, or Lantern, or Open Lantern equipped ... this will enable you 'To Light' the Dry Wood. Once you have equipped your torch just Activate the Dry Wood and then Target the Ground. NOTE : Campfires cannot be closer than 4 meters to each other.
The Campfire has many Functions:
- Allows Tents and Bedrolls to be set up
- Allows roasting of any Fresh Meat or Fresh Fish
- Allows Brewing Elixirs (see Crafting System)
- Radiates heat up to 8 meters (really)
- The campfire will not wear out ... it is assumed players will continue to feed the fire as needed (minimizes resources required by system to allow camping).
Tents:
- Activate and then target the ground.
- Everyone can click on to Rest
Bedrolls: NOTE : These BELONG to each person so only the OWNER of the bedroll can click on it to rest.
- Activate and then target the ground
To Pack up the Campfire simply talk to the Campfire and tell it to pack up. Then go and pick up your Tent and/or Bedroll. NEW!! When you press the Rest button you will now get a nice list of things you can do!! This is originally from Talus - WONDERFUL STUFF! Take some time to explore this very useful system!
Realistic Torches and Lanterns
These are automatically dimming over time light sources. That is right ... they will dim as they get older and then when they wear out they will stop functioning. The Torches of course will be destroyed and the Lanterns will simply require more Oil. All of these will start dimming at 50% their duration (explained below).
Torches:
- Starting Light 15 meters
- Duration 4 Hours
- Destroys itself once expended
- Cheap at 1 GP Each
Open Lanterns:
- Starting Light 15 meters
- Duration 6 Hours
- Need to refill with Lantern Oil
- 25 GP Each
Lanterns:
- Starting Light 20 meters
- Duration 8 Hours
- Need to refill with Lantern Oil
- 50 GP Each
